HB 347 (2006)
relative to indicating citizenship on drivers’ licenses and nondrivers’ identification cards.
- Status: Died on the table
- Term: 2005-2006
- House committee: Election Law
- Senate committee: Transportation and Interstate Cooperation
- Subject: Motor Vehicles
The Story
It was introduced on January 26, 2005 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 17, 2005. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 7, 2005, June 21, 2005, June 28, 2005, September 20, 2005, September 27, 2005, October 6, 2005, October 13, 2005, November 15, 2005 and November 22, 2005. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 10–5. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 18, 2006 the House adopted “Special Order to beginning of Reg Cal of Feb 1, Without Objection”. The committee's amendment (0236h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 1, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On February 1, 2006 the House failed “Reconsideration per Rep. O'Neil”. It crossed to the Senate on February 9, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Transportation and Interstate Cooperation committee. The committee held public hearings on February 22, 2006 and April 12, 2006. On April 20, 2006 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote.
