The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2006 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 2006. The committee held work sessions on January 30, 2006 and February 8, 2006. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0793h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0793h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 22, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On February 22, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 23, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Banks and Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 21, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1744). The committee's amendment (1744) was adopted on a voice vote on April 20, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On April 20, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 20, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. On May 4, 2006 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 22, 2006, making it Chapter 152 of the session laws. It took effect on July 21, 2006.
