The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2006 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 11, 2006. The committee held work sessions on January 17, 2006, February 7, 2006 and February 8, 2006. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0872h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 15, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 16, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 29, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2009). The committee's amendment (2009) was rejected on May 3, 2006. On May 3, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 15–7 and ordered it to a third reading, on a motion by Sen. Roberge. On May 3, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. An enrolled bill amendment (2297) was adopted on May 11, 2006. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 24, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2297) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 5, 2006, making it Chapter 246 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2006.
