The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2006 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 31, 2006. It crossed to the Senate on February 23, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (2167), offered by Sen. Hassan, was adopted on a voice vote on May 4, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On May 4, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 4, 2006 the Senate adopted “Rules Susp. for Third Reading and Final Passage” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Clegg. On May 4, 2006 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 12, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 12, 2006, making it Chapter 119 of the session laws. It took effect on May 12, 2006.
