HB 1243-FN (2006)

reducing certain fines for motor vehicle violations.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2005-2006
  • House committee: Ways and Means
  • Senate committee: Finance
  • Subject: Motor Vehicles
  • Chapter law: 259

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2006 and referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 11, 2006. The committee held work sessions on January 25, 2006 and January 31, 2006. The majority recommended that the House kill it, and the minority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0392h), by a vote of 12–7. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 9, 2006 the House rejected a motion to kill it on a roll call 107–196. On March 9, 2006 the House adopted “FLR AM” on a voice vote. On March 9, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 16, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 5, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1654). The committee's amendment (1654) was adopted on a voice vote on April 13, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On April 13, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 13, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. On May 4, 2006 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2230) was adopted on May 24, 2006. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 5, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2230) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 9, 2006.
