  • Term: 2005-2006
  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration

  • Chapter law: 268

The Story

It was introduced on January 26, 2005 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 24, 2005. The committee held work sessions on March 17, 2005 and March 22, 2005. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 30, 2005 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 31, 2005 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 20, 2005. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On June 2, 2005 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On June 9, 2005 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote. On June 9, 2005 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 9, 2005 the Senate voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on June 29, 2005 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2126) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 22, 2005, making it Chapter 268 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2006.
