HB 359 (2004)

establishing a procedure for apportioning state senate and representative districts.

  • Status: Died on the table
  • Term: 2003-2004
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Subject: Elections

The Story

It was introduced on January 9, 2003 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held public hearings on February 4, 2003 and March 4, 2003. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 13, 2003, September 10, 2003, September 24, 2003 and October 30, 2003. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 9–5. The committee's amendment (2438) was adopted on a voice vote on January 15, 2004, changing the text of the bill. On January 15, 2004 the House rejected a motion to pass it with changes on a roll call 170–174. On January 15, 2004 the House voted to lay it on the table on a roll call 193–151.
