The Story
It was introduced on February 14, 2002 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 13, 2002. A floor amendment (2976), offered by Sen. Barnes, was adopted on a voice vote on March 14, 2002, changing the text of the bill. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 26, 2002. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 14–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 4, 2002 the House voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on April 4, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (3462) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on April 25, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 3, 2002, making it Chapter 82 of the session laws.
