The Story

It was introduced on January 2, 2002 and referred to the Senate Banks committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 12, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 14, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 14, 2002 and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 5, 2002. The committee held a work session on March 14, 2002. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 12–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 17, 2002 the House voted to pass it with changes. On April 25, 2002 the Senate adopted “Sen. Burns Concur with Amendment” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (3758) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on May 17, 2002, making it Chapter 225 of the session laws. It took effect on July 16, 2002.
