relative to probate court procedures regarding adoptions.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Children and Family Law
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Children
  • Chapter law: 9

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2001 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 15, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 29, 2001 and was referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 1, 2001. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House pass it. On January 10, 2002 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on January 31, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2272) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on March 7, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on March 25, 2002, making it Chapter 9 of the session laws. It took effect on March 25, 2002.
