SB 124 (2002)
relative to confidentiality of abuse and neglect proceedings and establishing a pilot project relative to abuse and neglect hearings in the Grafton county court.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2001-2002
- House committee: Children and Family Law
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Children
- Chapter law: 243
The Story
It was introduced on February 1, 2001 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 7, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0765). On April 12, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Children and Family Law committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on May 9, 2001. The committee held a work session on May 22, 2001. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 30, 2001, June 6, 2001, June 13, 2001, June 19, 2001, October 2, 2001, November 13, 2001, November 29, 2001 and December 4, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes. On January 17, 2002 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On April 25, 2002 the Senate adopted “Sen. Gordon Concur with House Amendment” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 25, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (3681) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 17, 2002, making it Chapter 243 of the session laws. It took effect on May 17, 2002.
