The Story

The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 9–8. On June 7, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on January 31, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 2, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On April 16, 2002 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. The bill died on the table when the session ended on November 18, 2002, having been set aside and never taken back up.
