HB 678 (2002)

relative to notice of release of an inmate from state prison.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
  • Chapter law: 181

The Story

It was introduced on February 8, 2001 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 7, 2001. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held a work session on May 16, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 11–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on June 7, 2001. On June 7, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on January 31, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3519). On April 18, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 25, 2002 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (3737) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on May 15, 2002, making it Chapter 181 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2003.
