HB 661 (2002)
relative to hearing timelines in abuse and neglect cases.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2001-2002
- House committee: Children and Family Law
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Children
- Chapter law: 180
The Story
It was introduced on February 8, 2001 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2001. The committee held a work session on April 3, 2001. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 12–1, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 2, 2002 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on January 2, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 13, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3535). On April 18, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 25, 2002 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 15, 2002, making it Chapter 180 of the session laws. It took effect on July 14, 2002.
