HB 617 (2002)
relative to additional exceptions to junk yard regulation.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2001-2002
- House committee: Municipal and County Government
- Senate committee: Public Affairs
- Subject: Miscellaneous
- Chapter law: 228
The Story
It was introduced on February 8, 2001 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2001. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 15, 2001, September 11, 2001, November 14, 2001 and November 27, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 11–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 2, 2002 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on January 2, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 26, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3479). On April 16, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 25, 2002 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On April 25, 2002 the Senate adopted “Sen. Roberge Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on April 26, 2002 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On May 2, 2002 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On May 2, 2002 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (3780) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on May 17, 2002, making it Chapter 228 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2002.
