HB 523 (2002)

relative to filing fees and legislative approval of certain settlements by the attorney general.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 200

The Story

It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 12, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 12–1, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 5, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes, then referred it on to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held a work session on May 9, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 31, 2001 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on January 2, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 30, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3590). On April 18, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 25, 2002 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (3754) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on May 15, 2002, making it Chapter 200 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2002.
