HB 515-FN-LOCAL (2002)

establishing parental choice scholarships.

  • Status: Referred for interim study
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Education
  • Subject: Education - General

The Story

It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 20, 2001. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 8–7. On March 22, 2001 the House adopted “Special Order to end of Reg Cal” on a voice vote. On March 22, 2001 the House adopted “Susp Rules for deadline” on a voice vote. On April 5, 2001 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 182–173, then referred it on to the House Finance committee. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on April 24, 2001, May 1, 2001, May 22, 2001, May 29, 2001, June 6, 2001 and October 9, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House study it after the session ends. On January 10, 2002 the House voted to study it after the session ends on a voice vote. The committee held work sessions on September 24, 2002 and October 16, 2002. The committee reported back on its interim study of the bill: “NOT REC FOR LEGIS IN 2003”, by a vote of 18 to 0.
