The Story

It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 14, 2001. The committee held a work session on March 21, 2001. On March 22, 2001 the House adopted “Susp Rules for Deadline” on a voice vote. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on October 3, 2001, October 17, 2001, October 24, 2001, November 7, 2001, November 14, 2001, November 20, 2001 and November 27, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 17–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 2, 2002 the House voted to pass it with changes, then referred it on to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it. On January 24, 2002 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on January 31, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 13, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 18, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 8, 2002, making it Chapter 120 of the session laws. It took effect on July 7, 2002.
