HB 266 (2002)

establishing a committee to study recodificiation of the election laws.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Public Affairs
  • Subject: Study Committees and Commissions
  • Chapter law: 19

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2001 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2001. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 18–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 2, 2002 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on January 2, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 19, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2862). On March 14, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 21, 2002 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on March 21, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 2, 2002, making it Chapter 19 of the session laws. It took effect on April 2, 2002.
