prohibiting intoxication from consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2001-2002
- House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
- Chapter law: 256
The Story
It was introduced on January 17, 2002 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2002. The committee held a work session on February 13, 2002. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 10–4. On March 6, 2002 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 14, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 28, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3571). On April 18, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On April 18, 2002 the Senate adopted “OT3rdg” on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 25, 2002 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On April 25, 2002 the Senate adopted “Sen. Gordon Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on April 29, 2002 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On May 2, 2002 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On May 2, 2002 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report” on a division vote 199–101. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (3782) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on May 17, 2002, making it Chapter 256 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2003.
