  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 221

The Story

It was introduced on December 12, 2001 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 29, 2002. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 17–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 14, 2002 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on February 20, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3559). On April 18, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 25, 2002 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 2, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 17, 2002, making it Chapter 221 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2003.
