The Story

It was introduced on June 26, 2001 and referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 23, 2002. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 12–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 14, 2002 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 20, 2002 and was referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 13, 2002. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 14, 2002 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on March 21, 2002 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 8, 2002, making it Chapter 31 of the session laws.
