The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2001 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 21, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0466). On April 5, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 5, 2001 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 1, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 31, 2001 the House voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on June 13, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 29, 2001, making it Chapter 147 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2002.
