The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2001 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0223). On February 22, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 29, 2001 and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 8, 2001. The committee held work sessions on May 15, 2001 and May 22, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 14–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On June 7, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes. On June 12, 2001 the Senate adopted “Sen. Prescott Concur with House Amendment” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1861) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 13, 2001, making it Chapter 262 of the session laws. It took effect on July 13, 2001.
