The Story
It was introduced on February 15, 2001 and referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0938). On April 19, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1116). On May 9, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 23, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 11–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On June 7, 2001 the House voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1776) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 11, 2001, making it Chapter 209 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2002.
