SB 139 (2001)
relative to uniform electronic transactions.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2001-2002
- House committee: Commerce
- Senate committee: Internal Affairs
- Subject: Miscellaneous
- Chapter law: 265
The Story
It was introduced on February 15, 2001 and referred to the Senate Internal Affairs committee. The committee held public hearings on March 12, 2001 and April 3, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1121). On May 9, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 23, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On June 7, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes. On June 12, 2001 the Senate adopted “Req. Comm of Conf.” on a voice vote. On June 13, 2001 the House adopted “House Acceded to req for Conf Comm”. A committee of conference met on June 18, 2001 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 26, 2001 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report”. On June 26, 2001 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1876) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 13, 2001, making it Chapter 265 of the session laws. It took effect on September 11, 2001.
