HB 652 (2001)

relative to the penalties for reckless or negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Transportation
  • Senate committee: Transportation
  • Subject: Motor Vehicles
  • Chapter law: 254

The Story

It was introduced on February 8, 2001 and referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 15, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 17–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 18, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on May 9, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 29, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On June 12, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1854) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 13, 2001, making it Chapter 254 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2001.
