The Story
It was introduced on February 8, 2001 and referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 15, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 17–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 18, 2001 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on May 1, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 22, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1245). On May 24, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 7, 2001 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 13, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 29, 2001, making it Chapter 139 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2001.
