- Term: 2001-2002

- Senate committee: Energy and Economic Development

The Story
It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 7, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 15–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 29, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Energy and Economic Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 17, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0957). On April 19, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 31, 2001 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On June 7, 2001 the Senate adopted “Sen. Below Accede to House Request for Committe of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 19, 2001 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 26, 2001 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On June 26, 2001 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1879) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 13, 2001, making it Chapter 249 of the session laws. It took effect on September 11, 2001.
