The Story

It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 16–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 15, 2001 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 15, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0481). On March 29, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 17, 2001 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 8, 2001, making it Chapter 39 of the session laws. It took effect on August 7, 2001.
