The Story

It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2001. The committee held work sessions on February 14, 2001 and March 14, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 17–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 29, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 24, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1370). On May 31, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 7, 2001 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 13, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 26, 2001, making it Chapter 113 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2002.
