HB 390 (2001)

relative to the Live-Birth Infants Protection Act.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs
  • Senate committee: Public Institutions, Health and Human Services
  • Subject: Public and Mental Health
  • Chapter law: 219

The Story

It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 20, 2001. The committee met in executive session on March 9, 2001 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House pass it, by a vote of 11–7. On March 29, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 196–166. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. On May 9, 2001 the Senate adopted “H & H S” on a voice vote. The Senate withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on May 29, 2001. On June 12, 2001 the Senate adopted “Sen. McCarley Moves Ought to Pass” on a voice vote 17–7 and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 11, 2001, making it Chapter 219 of the session laws. It took effect on September 9, 2001.
