The Story
It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 13, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 17–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 22, 2001 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 29, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 2, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 24, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. A floor amendment (1080), offered by Sen. D'Allesandro, was adopted on a voice vote on May 24, 2001, changing the text of the bill. On May 31, 2001 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 13, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 26, 2001, making it Chapter 110 of the session laws. It took effect on August 25, 2001.
