The Story
It was introduced on January 25, 2001 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 14, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 16–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 29, 2001 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 2, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 24, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1416). On June 5, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 7, 2001 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 13, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 26, 2001, making it Chapter 109 of the session laws. It took effect on June 26, 2001.
