HB 277-LOCAL (2001)

clarifying the penalties for violations of statutes or ordinances where no penalty is specified.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2001-2002
  • House committee: Municipal and County Government
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 274

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2001 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 12–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 22, 2001 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on March 29, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 18, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1595). On June 12, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 12, 2001 the Senate adopted “Sen. Gordon Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. On June 13, 2001 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes. A committee of conference met on June 20, 2001 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 26, 2001 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On June 26, 2001 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report”. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 16, 2001, making it Chapter 274 of the session laws. It took effect on July 16, 2001.
