The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2001 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 7, 2001. The committee held a work session on March 27, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 11–3, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 18, 2001 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on May 1, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 16, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1551). On June 12, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 13, 2001 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 5, 2001, making it Chapter 172 of the session laws. It took effect on September 3, 2001.
