establishing a committee to study encryption of confidential information.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2001-2002
- House committee: Commerce
- Senate committee: Internal Affairs
- Subject: Study Committees and Commissions

The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2001 and referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 16, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 11–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 25, 2001 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 22, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Internal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0480). On March 29, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. A floor amendment (0583), offered by Sen. Flanders, was adopted on a voice vote on March 29, 2001, changing the text of the bill. On May 17, 2001 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 8, 2001, making it Chapter 31 of the session laws. It took effect on June 8, 2001.
