The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2001 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 9, 2001. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 17–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 25, 2001 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 22, 2001 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2001. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0742). On April 12, 2001 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On June 7, 2001 the Senate adopted “Sen. Prescott Motion to Remove From Table” on a voice vote. On June 7, 2001 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. A floor amendment (1443), offered by Sen. Prescott, was adopted on a voice vote on June 7, 2001, changing the text of the bill. On June 13, 2001 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2001 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1852) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 16, 2001, making it Chapter 282 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2001.
