The Story

It was introduced on April 6, 2000 and referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 4177). On April 20, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 20, 2000 and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 2, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 12–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 17, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes. On May 18, 2000 the Senate adopted “Requests C of C” on a voice vote. On May 18, 2000 the House adopted “House Acceded to req for Conf Comm”. On May 31, 2000 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report”. On May 31, 2000 the Senate adopted “Conf. Comm Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 21, 2000, making it Chapter 325 of the session laws. It took effect on June 21, 2000.
