SB 468 (2000)
relative to the family division of the courts and relative to the jurisdiction of the family division in Rockingham county.
- Status: Vetoed, override failed
- Term: 1999-2000
- House committee: Judiciary
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Courts and Procedure
The Story
It was introduced on March 23, 2000 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2000. On April 13, 2000 the Senate adopted “nec.” on a voice vote. On April 13, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 20, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 20, 2000 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 3, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 9–3. On May 18, 2000 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 229–44. The bill was enrolled on May 18, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (4670) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on June 13, 2000. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On July 12, 2000 the Senate voted 0–22 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
