SB 439-FN (2000)

relative to motor vehicle offenses resulting in serious bodily injury and relative to driver record information.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 319

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3736). On March 16, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 14–2, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 17, 2000. On May 17, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 18, 2000 the Senate adopted “Request C of C” on a voice vote. On May 18, 2000 the House adopted “House Acceded to req for Conf Comm”. On May 31, 2000 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report”. On May 31, 2000 the Senate adopted “Conf. Comm Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (4792) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 21, 2000, making it Chapter 319 of the session laws.
