The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 22, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3689). On March 16, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 22–2 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2000. The committee held work sessions on April 26, 2000, May 2, 2000 and May 3, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 18–0. On May 18, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 18, 2000 the House adopted “Susp Rules for 3rd reading” on a voice vote. On May 18, 2000 the Senate adopted “Sen. Wheeler Concur With House Amendment” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (4763) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 12, 2000, making it Chapter 264 of the session laws. It took effect on August 11, 2000.
