The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held public hearings on January 11, 2000 and February 2, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 10, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 10, 2000 and was referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 11, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 18–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 17, 2000 the House voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on May 18, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 30, 2000, making it Chapter 208 of the session laws.
