The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3343). On March 16, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 17–1, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 20, 2000 the House voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on April 27, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 8, 2000, making it Chapter 125 of the session laws. It took effect on July 7, 2000.
