- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 1999-2000
- House committee: Judiciary
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Miscellaneous

The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 12, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3640). On March 9, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 9, 2000 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 22, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 4, 2000. On May 4, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 11, 2000 the Senate adopted “Sen. Pignatelli Concur with House Amendment” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 18, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 26, 2000, making it Chapter 191 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2001.
