The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3765). On March 16, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 11, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 12–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 4, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes. On May 18, 2000 the Senate adopted “Sen. Pignatelli Concur with House Amendment” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (4757) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 12, 2000, making it Chapter 254 of the session laws. It took effect on June 12, 2000.
