The Story

It was introduced on March 9, 2000 and referred to the House State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 21, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 30, 2000 the House adopted “Susp Rules for deadline” on a voice vote. On April 13, 2000 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on April 20, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Internal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 11, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 18, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 18, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 30, 2000, making it Chapter 192 of the session laws.
