The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on March 9, 2000. On March 9, 2000 the House adopted “Recommitted to St-Fed Rel & Vets” on a voice vote. The committee held a public hearing on March 16, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 16–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 29, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on April 6, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Banks committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 4426). On May 11, 2000 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On May 11, 2000 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote. On May 11, 2000 the Senate adopted “OT3rdg” on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 18, 2000 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 18, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (4632) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage.
