  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Environment and Agriculture

  • Chapter law: 142

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1999 and referred to the House Environment and Agriculture committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 2, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House send it back to committee unanimously, 18–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 18, 1999 the bill was referred to the Environment and Agriculture committee. The committee held work sessions on September 9, 1999 and September 28, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 16–2. On January 6, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on January 13, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 25, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 27, 2000 the Senate adopted “Committee Report Ought to Pass” on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 23, 2000, making it Chapter 142 of the session laws. It took effect on July 22, 2000.
