The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 12–5. On February 17, 2000 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 17, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 18, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 4164). On April 20, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 17, 2000 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 18, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 30, 2000, making it Chapter 205 of the session laws. It took effect on July 29, 2000.
